Louise te Poele, 1984 is a Dutch visual artist / curator, she's the initiator of the 'Standing on the shoulders of giants - a celebration of Dutch Female Artists' exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery London 7 March - 14 May 2024.
Te Poele’s work has been shown internationally, including Museum Arnhem in the Netherlands, New York, London, Switzerland, Istanbul, Miami, and on several locations in Germany and France. She recently finished an artist in residency at Collège Néerlandais part of Cité Université in Paris. She was also a resident of Schloss Ringenberg, Germany. Her work is part of multiple collections, including the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Museum Arnhem, Museum Villa Mondriaan, the Dutch Embassy in Japan, and the French State, in addition to various private art collections. Te Poele’s work has been shown in numerous museums, galleries, and art fairs, such as the IJssel Biënnale, Unseen Amsterdam, Art Rotterdam, and Art Miami, amongst others. She is a recipient of a Stipend of the Mondriaan Fund.
Te Poele works with the medium of photography, and she creates spatial sculptures and drawings. She consciously chooses precision and aesthetics. That's part of her story. She works from the conviction that the experience of beauty leads to concentrated attention and, ultimately, to a caring relationship with the world. So, she uses her skills in such a way that there is an apparent balance that pulls the viewer into her work. Once there, she speaks, and the content can be unravelled in a world of intuitively chosen images and ideas that she composes entirely according to her insight. She combines familiar and seemingly logical objects into a whole that initially seems familiar but evokes wonder and confusion on closer inspection. Whether she magnifies characters, exposes identities, or visualises heritage. Her works offer recognisability to the casual viewer but only come into its full weight with the intense curiosity of a trained viewer who suspects and searches through the connections she has provided.
